Oracle ASM disk group usage alert

Use the ASM Disk Group Usage alert to detect Oracle ASM disk groups that are approaching capacity. This alert is only meaningful when Mini DBA can read V$ASM_DISKGROUP.

Why it matters

ASM capacity pressure can block datafile, tempfile, archive, or recovery-file growth even when database-level tablespaces appear healthy. Treat this as shared storage pressure and review redundancy and usable file space before simply adding tablespace files.

What to check

  • Open Oracle Operations and review the ASM Disk Groups tab.
  • Check used percent, usable file space, required mirror free space, redundancy type, state, and offline disk count.
  • If FRA or archive symptoms are also active, review Recovery Area and Archive Destinations on the same page.

Tuning the alert

The default thresholds are 85% minor and 90% major, with duration enabled. Raise or lower them based on ASM redundancy, growth rate, and operational lead time for adding capacity.
